Artist's Description
A ruff was a large round neckpiece or collar of heavily pleated lace, muslin, or linen worn by men and women of the 16th and 17th centuries, especially the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods. The ruff provided the inspiration for the title of this image and for a pun as well.
